BS from MIT in 1979,
physics, MA from UC Berkeley 1982, PhD from UC Berkeley, 1988, under
Yuen Ron Shen, all degrees in physics. Graduate work pioneered
sum-frequency generation as a surface sensitive optical probe. He
specifically applied it to two dimensional phase transitions in
Languir films. Started
at Rockwell Corporation in 1988, changed to Boeing, when Boeing
purchased Rockwell’s aerospace divisions. Presently a member of the
Boeing fellowship. Wide interest in nonlinear optical properties of
condensed matter and applications. Published in Applied Physics
Letter, Journal of Applied Physics, and Physical Review
Letters.
Edited three
books:
- Laser Beam
Diagnostics
- Nonlinear Optical
Spectroscopy
- Optical Parametric
Oscillators and Amplifiers and their
Applications.
